Brecknock Estate, Camden.
Client: London Borough of Camden.
Object: This Council estate close to Holloway prison in North London, is listed and of architectural importance. Original concrete balcony walkways were in a very bad state of repair. The balconies were originally going to be repaired as part of a larger scheme of replacing all original metal framed windows.
Solution: However after much consultation with engineers and residents, it was decided to remove the original concrete walls of the balconies to floor level. These were then repaired and resurfaced. Plain railing panels with integral top handrails were then installed. The only safe method of fixing being to the fronts of each floor level. The Balcony panels were polyester powder coated in a colour to blend in with the newly painted facades.
